About the place
A five-kilometre strip of sand from the airport to Legian where Bali tourism began in the 1970s. A soft wave over a sandy bottom made Kuta the island's main surf school: boards for hire on every corner and instructors waiting on the sand.
The beach is busy and loud, but the sunsets match Seminyak's and hotel rates are half the price. The promenade has been rebuilt and malls and first-line hotels run along it.
