What the airport reported
I Gusti Ngurah Rai International Airport in southern Bali has released its third-quarter 2026 results. Over July, August and September it served 6.6 million passengers. In the second quarter the figure was 5.9 million. The numbers were reported by the Antara news agency, citing airport general manager Nugroho Jati.
Of the 6.6 million passengers, 4.3 million flew on international routes and 2.3 million on domestic ones. Aircraft made 37,000 movements, 19,000 international and 18,000 domestic.
A gap in the percentages
The airport cites growth of 16 percent on the previous quarter. The rounded figures of 6.6 and 5.9 million, however, imply a rise of roughly 12 percent. The source does not explain the difference. It may come from rounding or from a different base. We give both numbers as published.
Note also that this compares two neighbouring quarters, not year on year. Bali's seasonality is pronounced, so growth from Q2 to Q3 alone says little about the trend against 2025.
Nine months in numbers
From January to September 2026 the airport served 17.6 million passengers. Of these, 11.3 million were international and 6.2 million domestic. On average about 64,000 people a day passed through, counting departures and arrivals. Over nine months there were 105,000 aircraft movements, 56,900 international and 48,600 domestic.
Jakarta was the busiest domestic route with 2.7 million passengers. Surabaya followed with 973,000, then Labuan Bajo with 446,000, Lombok Praya with 356,000 and Makassar with 328,000.
Where travellers come from
Singapore tops the international list with 2 million passengers. Kuala Lumpur comes next with 1.1 million, then Perth with 900,000, Melbourne with 828,000 and Sydney with 652,000.
By nationality, Australia leads foreign arrivals with 1.3 million visitors. China contributed 474,000, India 406,000, the United Kingdom 234,000 and South Korea 226,000.
New routes
The airport opened eight new routes in the third quarter. Six are domestic: Waingapu, Wakatobi and Surabaya on TransNusa, plus three Bandung services from Garuda Indonesia, Citilink and Super Air Jet. Two are international: Beijing Daxing on China Eastern Airlines and Phuket on TransNusa.
The general manager said the airport will keep putting safety, security and passenger comfort first, and is preparing facilities and staff for the flow of travellers.
What it means for the market
For Bali's property market the structure of the flow matters. Two thirds of passengers, 4.3 million of 6.6 million, flew on international routes. These are guests who more often stay in villas and hotels and spend longer on the island. The domestic flow is smaller but is widening through new routes to Bandung and Surabaya.
The airport figures do not give occupancy or prices on their own. They are an indirect indicator of demand and should be read together with accommodation data and seasonality.
