About the place
A sea temple on a rock in the surf, Bali's most photographed sight. Founded in the 16th century by the priest Nirartha, it belongs to the island's chain of coastal temples. At high tide the rock is cut off, at low tide you can walk across and receive a blessing at the freshwater spring.
Sunset draws thousands and a market and car parks have grown around it. For the area it is the main draw for guests and the reason villas near Tanah Lot rent year-round.
