What PHRI said
PHRI Bali chairman Tjokorda Oka Artha Ardana Sukawati told ANTARA that the MotoGP race at Mandalika is having a positive effect on Bali tourism. The race itself takes place on Lombok, in West Nusa Tenggara province, from October 9 to 11, 2026.
According to him, average hotel occupancy in Bali stood at about 68% in mid September. In Sanur it was above 80%.
Why race visitors stay in Bali
Lombok does not have enough rooms for all race visitors, so some spectators, teams and crew use Bali as their base. The association says many stay on the island for two or three days after the event and combine racing with a holiday.
South Bali, especially Nusa Dua, remains the main place to stay because of its access to the airport and sea crossings. Ubud features mainly as a popular day trip.
The PHRI chairman also noted that MotoGP visitors tend to be high spenders. That matters most for hotels and villas in the south, where guests stay during race days.
How to judge the effect
The PHRI figures are an industry estimate, not official statistics. BPS hotel occupancy data for September and October will come later and will show how visible the effect really was.
Large events create short spikes in demand. They matter for pricing specific dates, but they do not change the yearly occupancy picture.
As a benchmark, official BPS data put Bali star hotel occupancy at 67.29% in July 2026. The PHRI estimate for mid September is close to that level, although the methods differ.
