What is being built
The project is a TPST, an integrated waste processing site, inside TPA Temesi, Gianyar's main landfill. It will handle 200 tonnes a day.
The organic share, about 60 tonnes a day from across the regency, is to be turned into compost. The central government is funding construction.
Timing and conditions
DetikBali reports that the tender should open in December 2026, with operations planned for 2027. The project only moves ahead if the tender succeeds.
Wayan Arsana, head of the regency environment office, said the administration has no fallback plan if the tender fails.
Where the compost goes
Local residents who cannot afford fertilizer will get priority. Arsana said any surplus may be sold or sent to other regencies.
For now the full 200 tonnes a day goes straight to the landfill. Until the facility is built, pressure on Temesi stays the same.
Why waste matters for Ubud
Gianyar covers Ubud, Tegallalang, Payangan and other tourist areas. More villas and cafes mean more waste, and much of it ends up at Temesi.
Processing organic waste will ease the load on the landfill, but only once the facility is running. Until then sorting and collection largely fall on properties themselves and on banjars, the local communities.
A clean approach road and tidy surroundings shape how guests see a villa. Sort out collection before you start renting.
Individual villages and banjars already run their own sorting schemes. Ask which rules apply in your community and what collection costs.
