What is being done
The Denpasar city government, through its public works and spatial planning office (PUPR), is clearing river channels and drainage canals at 40 points. Mayor I Gusti Ngurah Jaya Negara inspected work on Tukad Loloan in Sanur Kauh on 3 October. The work has run for about six weeks because of heavy silt buildup.
Besides Tukad Loloan, river normalization is under way on Tukad Mati, Tukad Rangda and Tukad Ayung. On Tukad Mati, the river agency BWS lent two pieces of heavy equipment.
New drains and five systems
Beyond maintenance, drainage is being built at 11 points in 2026, among them Kerta Raharja street in Sidakarya, the Duyung beach area in Sanur and Gunung Salak street. PUPR head I Gede Cipta Sudewa Atmaja explained that drainage management is split into five systems by river basin.
The fifth system sits in Pemogan, and the fourth covers Renon, Panjer, Sanur and Sidakarya. Each has its own flood strategy.
