The holiday period
I Gusti Ngurah Rai airport ran a 20 day holiday operation from December 15, 2025 to January 3, 2026. In that time 1.4 million passengers passed through, detikBali reported.
Traffic averaged 70,400 people a day. That is 6% above the normal daily level for 2025, which was about 66,200 passengers.
Each year the airport runs a special operation over this period together with other transport services, because domestic and international travel peak on the same dates.
Traffic breakdown
International flights carried 833,914 passengers, with 441,090 arriving and 392,824 departing. Domestic flights carried 574,839, of whom 297,575 arrived and 277,264 departed.
Aircraft movements reached 8,648, or 432 a day on average. That is 11% more than the 2025 average of 390 a day.
About 59% of passengers flew internationally and 41% domestically, so Indonesian travellers make up a large share of holiday demand. The number of flights grew faster than passenger traffic, by 11% against 6%.
The return wave
By January 3, departures had climbed to 41,763 in a single day, 24,099 of them international and 17,664 domestic. Gede Eka Sandi Asmadi, head of communications at the airport, said the return flow had begun.
The figures show that the main holiday wave arrived in late December. The mass departure began in the first days of January.
International departures outnumbered domestic ones that day, reflecting foreign guests heading home after the holidays.
