Key points

  • 574 entry refusals from January to August 2026
  • 10.2 million people passed through the airport
  • Russia ranks fourth by arrivals, with 189,432 visitors

The numbers

Over the first eight months of 2026, immigration at Ngurah Rai airport refused entry to 574 foreigners. That is 2% fewer than in the same period of 2025. Another 570 people were barred from leaving the country.

In total 10.2 million people passed through the airport, including 4.64 million foreigners.

Why people are refused

The main reasons were an incorrect visa status and passports with less than six months of validity. People already under an entry ban or listed in Interpol databases were also turned back.

A separate group of refusals involved attempts to enter for illegal work and problems with documents.

Exit bans are usually tied to unresolved matters in Indonesia, such as an investigation.

Where visitors come from

Australia led arrivals with 1.17 million people. China followed with 418,000, India with 364,000 and Russia with 189,000.

For comparison, arrivals from China were more than double those from Russia. India is now ahead of the Russian market as well.

Traffic in detail

Over eight months the airport handled 5.10 million arrivals and 5.13 million departures. Border crossings included 318,294 Indonesian citizens and 144,060 crew members.

The report also lists violations linked to Hajj travel among the reasons. Most refusals, however, involve foreigners with the wrong visa or faulty documents.

The visa type must match the purpose of the trip. A tourist visa or VoA does not cover work, including remote work. Before flying, check passport validity and any past visa violations.

What it means for investors

Russia remains among Bali's top four source markets, which matters for Russian-speaking rental demand. Remind guests to check that their passport has at least six months of validity. A refused entry means a cancelled booking and a dispute over refunds.
