The proposal
Director General of Immigration Hendarsam Marantoko announced plans to revise the price of the 30-day visa on arrival (VoA). The electronic e-VoA, arranged before travel, would cost Rp750,000. At the airport counter the price would be Rp1 million.
Both versions currently cost Rp500,000. Executive Traveller reports that the proposal is still awaiting government approval.
The visa on arrival is valid for 30 days. Most short-stay tourists to Bali use it, including visitors from Russia.
Why the fee is changing
Marantoko pointed to exchange rate swings and said the current amount is very low. The price gap is meant to push travellers to apply online and ease airport queues.
From January to July 2026 Indonesia issued 4.88 million e-visas, including 4.32 million e-VoAs. Visit stay permits rose 24.7% year on year.
Mixed signals in government
The Tourism Ministry is separately discussing visa-free access for several countries, including Australia, which is Bali's largest source market. No final decision on the new fees has been made.
Executive Traveller notes that Bali remains Australians' top overseas destination, with about 1.77 million visits a year.
What is still unknown
Reports do not give a regulation number or an effective date for the new fees. The immigration authority cites exchange rate changes, state revenue and the need to improve service.
According to Literasi Hukum, from January to July 2026 Indonesia also issued 53,347 limited-stay visas and 440,807 visit visas besides e-VoAs. Golden visas issued in the same period totalled 131.
