How the trial works
The electric bus runs on route K6B: Kuta Central Parking, Ngurah Rai airport, Nusa Dua. It operates like the regular buses of Trans Metro Dewata, the Denpasar metro area bus network.
The bus carries 25 to 30 passengers. One unit is being tested for now, with technical support from PT Kalista.
What it costs to ride
Rides are free during the trial. Agency head I Gusti Wayan Samsi Gunarta said the plan is to keep it free for a month because everything has to be tested.
He said the trial lets operators learn procedures and spot technical issues before a full rollout.
The trial also checks real-world range on a congested route with air conditioning and a full cabin. That data will show how many chargers are needed and where.
The 2028 goal
The provincial government has set a goal of moving its whole bus fleet to electric power by 2028.
This is a stated target. The article does not give dates for buying new buses or adding routes.
What it offers visitors
Route K6B links three points that much of South Bali's tourist traffic passes through: the Kuta parking hub, the airport and the Nusa Dua resort area. An electric bus needs no special infrastructure beyond charging, so it can run on existing lines.
The agency did not say what the fare will be after the free month.
Electric buses are quieter and produce no exhaust on resort streets. For a province promoting green tourism, they are part of a wider environmental programme.
