The August numbers
BPS Bali, the provincial statistics office, recorded 685,994 foreign arrivals in August 2026. That is 0.46% more than in August 2025. Compared with July, arrivals fell 1.69%.
Over the first eight months of the year, 4.59 million foreign visitors came to the island. That is 1.62% fewer than in the same period of 2025. Australia remains the top market with 1.14 million visits.
Europe up, Australia down
The August top five were Australia (161,258, down 7.61%), China (47,613), France (41,937), India (34,837) and the UK (32,928). French arrivals rose 20.42% month on month.
BPS Bali head Agus Gede Hendrayana Hermawan linked the jump to European summer holidays. Europe as a region delivered 220,047 arrivals, up 4.92%. He noted that European visitors usually stay longer and spend more.
How to read the data
July and August both showed small year on year gains. Before that, every month of 2026 had trailed 2025, and the year to date gap has not closed yet.
The mix of visitors is shifting. Europeans take a larger share in summer while the Australian market dipped in August. For property owners, that means guests from different regions book at different times and stay for different lengths.
For comparison, 697,809 foreign visitors arrived in July, the first month of 2026 to grow year on year. August confirmed that trend even though the absolute number dipped slightly. The ANTARA report does not include August hotel occupancy.
