What changes in numbers
LP2B means protected land for food crop agriculture. Karangasem already exceeded the 87% minimum. NusaBali reports about 5,200 ha are covered against a baseline of 5,976.13 ha set by a 2024 ATR/BPN ministerial decree.
After the adjustment, LP2B is projected at 5,479.51 ha. That equals 91.69% of the baseline and adds over 200 ha. The increase is tied to meeting the target set for Bali province as a whole.
The hoteliers' view
PHRI Karangasem chair I Wayan Kariasa backs farmland protection for food security. He says the designation should be selective and consider the condition and productivity of each plot.
In his view, well-irrigated rice fields deserve to be kept. Land that no longer produces could be reviewed so other sectors keep some room. He also noted that investors are now looking at Ababi, Sidemen, Rendang and Amed, and asked for careful vetting so projects do not stall.
What the regency wants
Regent I Gusti Putu Parwata says Karangasem already met the rule yet takes on over 200 ha more to serve the provincial goal. He argues this narrows space for infrastructure and tourism.
He asked the provincial government for special measures, including compensation. This is a request so far, and the source does not report a provincial decision.
