What is planned
InJourney Airports CEO Mohammad Pahlevi said the company is continuing development at four airports this year. They are Ngurah Rai in Bali, Soekarno-Hatta, Minangkabau and Depati Amir.
In Bali, passenger terminal capacity is to be raised to 32 million people a year. That is the main headline figure of the programme.
The works
At the international terminal, the departure piers at gates 1 to 9 will be optimised. A connecting pier will be built between the terminals, and a bridge will link the domestic and international buildings.
Check-in and commercial areas will also be refurbished. The company says the new bridge should cut check-in processing time.
Why the operator is doing it
InJourney links the programme to service standards and passenger experience. It wants to rank among the world's top 100 airports.
The article gives no completion dates for individual works. So 32 million passengers should be read as target capacity after expansion, not a current figure.
What is still unknown
InJourney did not disclose the cost of the programme or completion dates for the Bali works. The list covers terminals, piers and connecting bridges and does not mention a new runway.
A pier is the gallery of boarding gates where aircraft park. Optimising the piers at gates 1 to 9 is meant to speed up boarding for international flights.
For passengers, the main practical change is the bridge between terminals. It is meant to make transfers between domestic and international flights simpler and to shorten check-in queues.
