What was announced
Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi said construction will start in August 2026 and run until July 2027. Services are planned to begin in the first half of 2027.
State ferry company PT ASDP Indonesia Ferry will operate the service. Initial investment is estimated at Rp 1.21 trillion.
Route and piers
The water taxi is meant to link the airport with Canggu and other tourist spots. The land trip now takes one to two hours, and the sea route is planned at around 30 minutes.
Breakwaters are planned where waves are strong, including Sekeh Beach near the airport and Berawa Beach. ASDP is finishing pre-design and feasibility studies, after which detailed engineering design will follow.
Why the sea
In May 2026 Bali's deputy governor Nyoman Giri Prasta called the sea route a must for Canggu. He said the Shortcut Canggu road cannot be widened because of limited space and nearby temples.
The province, Badung Regency and the central government are working on it together. For now it is a plan with stated dates, and the detailed design is not finished.
What to watch
According to the deputy governor, the coastal stops will also act as breakwaters that protect the shore. The detailed engineering design (DED) will fix the exact stop locations, and only then will it be clear which areas end up close to a pier.
It is not yet clear what a ride will cost or how often boats will run. Those details will decide whether the water taxi becomes mass transport for visitors or stays a niche service.
