What is changing
Badung's transport agency is finalising a scheme for six junctions in Pecatu. They include Nirmala southbound, Blimbing, Blimbing Sari and Toyoning 1 and 2.
Agency head Anak Agung Gede Rahmadi explained the approach. In the short term the number of crossing points at junctions will be cut, and traffic will flow in a loop so that cars do not build long queues.
Timing
The trial was due to take effect from 1 June 2026. The scheme may be adjusted after testing.
Rahmadi tied the measures to quality tourism. He said congestion on the Pecatu and Uluwatu route wastes time and makes visits uncomfortable.
A trial format makes it easy to revert if the new scheme proves awkward for residents or tourist transport. So the final layout at these junctions may differ from the initial plan.
Canggu is next
The agency plans to roll out similar schemes in the Canggu tourist area in phases. There they will be coordinated with long-term projects, including new road openings.
The article gives no dates for Canggu.
The long-term fix
The Pecatu scheme is described as a short-term measure. In June 2026 the Badung regent said a western ring road is under construction to relieve the route past GWK park towards Uluwatu. It is expected to be finished in 2027.
Pecatu is the main gateway to the Uluwatu cliffs, where many villas and beach clubs have opened in recent years. Congestion at these six junctions directly affects how long guests spend on the road.
