What the village wants
Tibubeneng covers Berawa and part of Canggu, an area packed with villas and guesthouses. Village head I Made Kamajaya says tangled cables hang not only over main roads but also over residential streets and lanes.
Badung regency is already tidying cables along regency roads. The village wants to extend that approach to small streets and housing areas.
Where the project stands
The village has finished the DED, its detailed engineering design. Rules at village and regency level are now being drafted to give the work a legal and technical basis.
Money is the main obstacle. The village budget, known as APBDes, cannot cover underground networks. Self-funded, the work would be phased over several years. With an investor on board, the village hopes to finish in about a year.
What is still unknown
The source gives no project cost and does not name a possible partner. No start date has been announced.
If the project goes ahead, residents and businesses should expect digging on narrow streets. In Canggu that means temporary closures and harder access to properties.
Local context
North Kuta has been built up very densely in recent years. Narrow gangs, or lanes, are often the only access to villas and guesthouses.
Overhead cables there are more than an eyesore. They get in the way of trucks and building machinery and make network repairs harder.
The village plan is still only a plan. To move forward it needs approved rules and a partner willing to put in money.
