What GCI is
Global Citizen of Indonesia is designed as a route for the diaspora, former Indonesian citizens and their families. Unlike the Golden Visa, it is built around ties to the country rather than large investment.
The status is permanent. Holders must report to immigration every five years.
The status was introduced in January 2026 and sits alongside existing visas and stay permits.
Who qualifies
Eligible groups are defined by visa index. They include former citizens (E32E) and former citizens with special skills (E32F). Descendants of former citizens up to the second degree (E32G, E32H), foreign spouses of Indonesians (E31A, E31B) and children of mixed marriages (E31C) also qualify.
Applicants need income of about US$1,500 a month or US$15,000 a year. Investment commitments are lighter than for the Golden Visa and may take the form of bonds, shares, deposits or property. Applicants with special skills do not need to prove investment.
How it differs from the Golden Visa
The Golden Visa has run since 2024 and is granted for 5 or 10 years with renewal. It targets direct economic contribution, such as setting up a company with at least US$2.5 million.
Golden Visa categories
For comparison, the Golden Visa covers individual investors, corporate investors, second home holders, global talent and world figures. For corporate representatives the threshold is US$25 million for 5 years and US$50 million for 10 years.
Within this system, GCI is a separate route for people tied to Indonesia by family or origin.
